Name: TUNZA North East Asian Youth Environmental Network (TUNZA-NEAYEN) aims and functions: mobilize youth and youth organizations in Northeast Asia for environmental protection activities under the principle of sustainable development, in collaboration with the other sub-regional youth networks in Asia Pacific Region. Steering Committee - NFPs (National Focal Point) - Secretariat - Advisory Group Members of Each Country When did it start? TUNZA-NEAYEN is a youth network set up in January 2005 with consultation and support from the UNEP Regional Office for Asia and Pacific as a part of the UNEP’s global youth strategy. Where does it cover? China ~ Friends of Nature Korea ~ UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea Japan ~ Youth Eco League Mongolia ~ International Institution for Future For the first year Why has it been started? UNEP has organized environmental conferences, competitions, and awards for young people and adopted a six-year strategy designed to increase the participation of young people in environmental activities. According to this long-term strategy, regional youth environment networking is one of the most vibrant action that UNEP has taken, so that, particularly in Asia and the Pacific region, the South Asia Youth Environment Network has successfully launched in 2001. Why has it been started? Based on South Asia model, UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea will coordinate the launch of the Northeast Youth Environment Network in close collaboration with national focal points in Japan, China and Mongolia.
