10years,resultinginaneconomicaltoworkovercertainwells.In2013ContactEnergy(CEL,Operator)andWestern
EnergyServices(WES,Service)researched,developed,trialledandimplementedawirelineinterventiontechniqueand
methodologytosuccessfullyremoveandreducecalcitescaleintheOhaakiandWairakeigeothermalfieldsinNewZealand.This
wirelineinterventiontechnique,calledbroaching,isaprocessdevelopedintheoilandgasindustrywhichusesmechanicaltoolsto
removemainlysilicafromsmalldiameterproductiontubing.Thisprocesshasbeentransformedtoaccommodatethegeothermal
industrybydesigningtoolstocombatlargevolumesofcalciteinlargerdiametercasings.
