English as an international language becomes more and more important. Everyone wants to have excellent English ability in order to find a good job in the future. Reading is one of the four important skills in English as a foreign language. It is also a skill for students to learn by themselves. Francis Bacon has said:“Reading makes a full man; conference makes a ready man; and writing an exact man.” Reading plays an important role in English learning. Every college student is supposed to have very good reading ability. However, reading is not an easy work, especially for English reading, which will cost students much time and energy. Students can read some simple English reading materials, but when they face a little difficult material, they can not understand it very well, some of them even stop reading. In order to improve college students’ reading ability, we must firstly know the importance of English reading, and then find out some ineffective reading habits, and rectify these bad habits. The most important is that we need to master some useful strategies to improve English reading ability.
