Organisational Direction Organisational Direction Organisational Direction Organisational Direction Organisational Direction Organisational Direction Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Strategy Objectives Setting objectives is part of effective planning Effective planning bridges the gap between where the organisation is now and where it wants to be The process of planning will enable an organisation to establish, gain commitment to and achieve goals objectives Specific statements of what is intended to be achieved Objective examples There are a number of business objectives, which an organisation can set: Market share objectives: Objectives can be set to achieve a certain level of market share within a specified time. E.g. obtain 3% market share of the mobile phone industry by December 2010. To increase profit: An objective may be to increase sales by 10% from 2009 – 2010. To survive: The hard times the business is currently in. To grow: The business may set an objective to grow by 15% year on year for the next five years. To increase brand awareness over a specified period of time. SMART Objectives Specific – What you want the objectives to achieve. Measurable – Can you measure whether you are meeting the objectives or not. Achievable - Are the objectives you set, achievable and attainable? Realistic – Can you realistically achieve the objectives with the resources you have? Time – When do you want to achieve the set objectives?
