Teaching Material Analysis This is the 4th module in NSEFC Book1, and the topic is city. The title of the reading text is “A Lively City”. It talks about the city --- Xiamen, which will arouse the students’ great interests. That will be very helpful to practice using the target language. Through listening and reading, students will get more information about Xiamen. Then students will be introduced to the present perfect tense. Through the listening exercises, the students' listening ability will be improved, and so on. The reading text is an important part of this module, and it lays a foundation for this module. Students will deal with other parts based on this part, and they will gain the general idea of how to describe a place. II. Teaching Objectives 1. Language Objectives. In the reading text “A lively city”, there are some new words, phrases and sentences that may be a little bit difficult. So I should teach the students how to infer the meaning of a new word in the context and then explain it carefully. When students know the new words and phrases, they can understand the text better. 2. Ability Objectives. This is a general reading class. As we all know, the main objective is to improve the students’ reading ability. So I will train students’ ability to work out the general idea after fast reading. Besides, their ability of information-gathering and summarizing should be developed. 3. Moral Objectives Let students enjoy the beauty of Xiamen and make students love this city and be proud of our country. III.
