Results The insula area ( BA13) was a ti vated in both groups But in t he insomnia group, the right thalamus ( vent ral anterior nu leus) , t he right putamen, the left medial globus pallidus, the left pre entral gyrus ( BA9) , bilateral head of audate nu leus were spe ifi ally a tivated Con clusion The t herapeuti me hanism of ele troa upun ture on Shenmen and Sanyinjiao in treating insomnia might be that e le troa upun ture a tivates the thalamus ( ventral anterior nu leus) , the audate, the putamen, the medial globus pallidus, the reti ular thalami nu leus and ot her part s of sleep enter, and then integrates t he afferent and efferent message and reg ulates the sleeping It
