毕业设计（论文） Title: On Functions of Silence in Prison Break Based on Relevance Theory 题目：从关联理论分析美剧《越狱》中沉默的功能 学生姓名：叶丽梅 专 业：英 语 学 号指导老师：李 雪 二零一三年六月 Abstract Owing to the silence plays an important role in human communication, and in order to have a better understanding and better application of silence to promote the exchange information more smoothly, so it is necessary to further study the communicative functions of silence. This thesis is based on the Relevance: Communication and Cognition, which is put forward by Sperber and Wilson, and the author selected parts of dialogues as case studies from the popular film “Prison Break”, according to the five functions of silence imposed by Jensen in 1973. Use Relevance Theory to analyze the silence in dialogue. Through these analyses, we make a conclusion that silence can produce three contextual effects: Rule out old information, strengthen the new information and produce a new contextual implication. It helps us to have more accurate understanding of the plot, and also has a promoting effect on the language learners to interpret and use silence in different situations.
