Korean Oriental Medicine has experienced the dramatic change of social status during the modernizing period. Korean Oriental medicine met the serious crisis in the early modernizing period. But it achieved an institutional status at 1945 Liberation. Nowadays it enjoys the similar high status to Western medicine. The excellent students apply for the entrance examination to Korean Oriental medical school. Korean Oriental medical doctor is the highest income occupation. These show well the current social evaluation to Korean Oriental medicine. ?? In this paper, the actual state of the supply and the utilization of Korean Oriental medicine are reviewed. Korean Oriental medicine is gradually growing in the aspects of the supply. The growth rate of Korean Oriental medicine is higher than that of Western medicine. But still Korean Oriental medicine occupies the small portion of total number of hospital. In the area of utilization, the difference is bigger. Especially, the number of inpatients of Korean Oriental medical hospital is much lower than that of Western medical hospital. The fee paid by health insurance of Korean Oriental medical hospital is also much lower than that of Western medical hospital. In this paper, the statistical data of the supply and the utilization of Korean Oriental medicine are reinterpreted in terms of medical sociology. This study will contribute to making long term plan of the supply and the utilization of Korean Oriental medicine.
