Dialogue (omitted) Reading and Comprehension A freight rate is a price at which a certain cargo/freight is delivered from one point to another. The price depends on the form of the cargo, the mode of transport (truck, ship, aircraft), the weight of the cargo, and the distance to the delivery destination. It is the charge made by shipping companies for transport and must be added to the final price of goods. Exporters want to keep their prices low so they do not usually use air transport because it seems ridiculously expensive. However, sea freight is always cheaper than air freight? Let’s look at the cost. To some places it is £350 per tonne by air, but only £60 per cubic meter by sea. Because of their volumes and weights these goods are often sent more cheaply by air.
