Read them aloud and find out what hobby means That’s What a Hobby Means I know a man who has a coin collection worth several thousand dollars. A short time ago he bought a rare fifty-cent piece worth $ 250! He was very happy about his purchase and thought the price was reasonable. On the other hand, my youngest brother collects match boxes. He has almost 600 of them but I doubt if they are worth any money. However, to my brother they are extremely valuable. Nothing makes him happier than to find a new match box for his collection. That’s what a hobby means. I guess. It is something we like to do in our spare time simply for the fun of it. The value in dollars is not as important as the pleasure it gives us. Life without TV When friends come to visit us in the evening, very often they seem in a hurry and look at their watches. It isn’t that our friends are all very busy, it is just that we haven’t hot a television set. “but what do you do in the evening?” they are always asking. The answer is simple. Both my wife and I have hobbies. My wife enjoys cooking, sewing and painting and often attends evening classes in foreign languages. This is particularly useful as we always go abroad for our holidays. I collect stamps, coins and pictures and I am always busy with my collection. Both of us enjoy listening to music, singing and playing chess together. II. Group work Requirements: Pick out from the following those hobbies you like.
