Some tips on English study to learners (给英语学习者的几点建议) 贵州省纳雍县雍安育才高级中学:张槐忠 1 How to learn a Language(如何学习一种语言) The teacher can show you the language and give you tools to help you learn but you must keep in mind the most important step and take part in and practice as much as you can. Don’t be afraid to participate, the teacher will create a friendly and open learning environment in which you can experiment and try to speak English. Set yourself goals, but make them realistic. Congratulate yourself when you reach your goals. Don’t expect to understand everything immediately. Be patient, with time and effort the language will slowly become clearer. The fact that you’re reading this means you have already made an important step. Don’t give up. Imagine if at the age of 18 months, after a few falls, you decide you don’t want to learn to walk! 2 In the Classroom (课堂上如何学习英语) Participate in the classes. Take every opportunity to speak English, with respect for others, of course. Listening to others is very important when they are speaking. Be always ready to work with your classmates and to speak with them in English. We call this ‘pair work’ or ‘group work.’ Learning a language is about communicating with everybody. Expect to make lots of mistakes. You won’t learn English well without making mistakes. It’s part of the process. If the teacher sees you are making mistakes, they know you are trying, if you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough. 3 Outside the Classroom (课外如何学习英语) Participate in the social activities and parties we will be organizing. Practicing outside the classroom is an invaluable opportunity to make the classroom language active. You should study with someone or alone at home. There is a fundamental truth… the more time you dedicate, the more you will improve. Watching TV (CCTV 9, English language movies and the latest news in English) is also a way of studying English.
