M icroRNA s(m iRNA s) are short( 1925 nucleotides) noncoding RNAs that inhib it the expression of proteincod ing genes through perfect or mi perfect com plem entary basepairing to the 3∀untranslated regions(U Rs) of their target mRNAs and lead to posttranscriptional repression and/ ormRNA degradation. It has been dem onstrated that m iRNAs regulate a w ide range of biological processes including developm ent, cell d ifferentiation, proliferation and apoptosis. Recently grow ing evidences have ind icated a strong association between m iRNAs and oncogenesis. m iRNA s exert their tum or suppressor or oncogenic function by suppressing the expres sion of proteincod ing genes and in turn regu lating the signaling pathways.
