M ethods : The models of femoral shaft fract ures w ere prepared. The fati ue stren th of compression plat es under w ei ht bearin w as . calculated follow in the simulation electric measurement A ret rospective st udy of the clinic cases w ith plate failure w as performed. Results : T here w ere si nificant differences in the fati ue stren th of plates in fix ation of fractures w ith various types and rest raint s at fracture ends. The plate was not in safety under wei ht bearin without crutches if t here w as a bone defect or a ap betw een the fracture ends. Conclusion: Lack of the effective restraints between the fract ure ends w as one of the main causes of the plat e failure. Some principles in prevent in plate failure should be emphasized: 1. The fracture ends should be firm ly fix ed w ith la screw s; 2. The funct ional exercises should be taken rat ionally accordin to t he safet y factors of t he plates.
