Preface Dear Reader, RFID – the name of a technology that stands for the coalescence of print and electronics, for counterfeit protection and for the future of a strong printing industry. At drupa 2004, RFID integration was one of the subjects most talked about. Now, the techno- logy has matured. manroland AG and its partners pinpoint practical solutions and challenges with which we are still faced in RFID technology, the further development which manroland supports single-mindedly. Very much in the spirit of our Value-Added Printing philosophy, with which we aim to offer our customers added value above and beyond the printing press. The brochure Subjects of Print offers some insights into current RFID developments and shows how firmly manroland has established itself in the landscape of research. We have succeeded in gaining the support of various partner enterprises so as to be able to examine RFID integra- tion with regard to a whole range of economic and technological aspects. manroland presents itself as a strong and capable partner of the graphics industry, a partner who is not afraid to tread new ground. The company proved that once again in 2007, being the only printing press manufacturer among the 20 most active patent applicants in Germany.
