Shanghai Jiao Tong University M.A. Thesis  摘  要  充分性和可接受性是文学翻译中的两种不同倾向，代表着翻译规范连续体的两极。充分 性是指遵循来源系统的语言及文学规范，可接受性则指遵循目标系统的相应规范。双关语在 跨语际处理中可有多种方式进行改写，但是其中的一些处理方法在传统理论家看来却不够 “忠实”，无法被称为“好的”或“真正的”翻译。对双关语的处理最能揭示译者在充分性与可接 受性之间做出的根本抉择。目前已有相当数量的研究针对《红楼梦》中双关语翻译的策略和 倾向，但是定量研究仍较为少见。本文针对双关语的翻译策略，在结合定量分析的基础上进 行描述性研究。 在前人研究成果的基础上，作者将双关语的各种翻译方法划分为不同的充分性和可接受 性等级。之后比较了《红楼梦》两个译本（杨译和霍译）中50个双关语的翻译方法及策略， 并考察了两者的关系。 本研究采取随机抽样的方式，进行了曼惠特尼U检验、相关分析以及频率和相对频率检 测。结果表明两个译本在双关语的翻译倾向上存在显著差异。这些差异反映了翻译处理中存 在的规范及其背后的影响因素。同时，对源文本中同一双关语采用相同的处理方法则表明， 两位译者遵循着某些普遍的翻译原则和指导思想。此外，折衷的翻译方法在两个译本中都占 有主要地位，说明两位译者都相当重视译本的充分性与可接受性，并且对源语和目标语都有 很好的掌握。 关键词：充分性， 可接受性， 双关语， 等级 IV Shanghai Jiao Tong University M.A. Thesis ABSTRACT Adequacy and acceptability are two different translation tendencies in literary translation. They represent two poles of the continuum which relates to the norms used in the translation process. The former refers to adherence to the norms (both linguistic and literary) of the source system, while the latter designates adherence to those of the target system. Puns may be amendable to various forms of interlingual processing, but some kinds of processes are simply not “faithful” enough for the traditional theorists to qualify as “good” or “genuine” translation. The treatment of puns can be most revealing of the translator’s basic choice between adequacy and acceptability. There has been a considerable amount of research on the strategies and tendencies observed in the pun translation of Hong Loumeng, but quantitative studies are seldom reported. The present study is designed to make a descriptive study with statistical analyses to investigate translation strategies of puns. In light of previous researchers’ work, different methods of translating puns are graded to represent different degrees of adequacy and acceptability.
