The Macula is used to help you see details such as fine lines or the shape of an object. It also helps you when driving or to recognize someone’s face. The central part of the macula is distinguished by its yellow coloration, the “macular protective pigment”, composed exclusively of carotenoid material. Despite its small size, this region of the retina is responsible for the highest degree of visual activity.
