No person below the minimum age shall be employed or engaged or work on a ship. The minimum age at the time of the initial entry into force of this Convention is 16years. A higher minimum age shall be required in the circumstances set out in the Code. Night work for seafarers under the age of 18 is prohibited, except to the extent that an exemption has been made by the competent authority under Standard A1.1, paragraph3, in the case of training programs (StandardA1.1,paragraph2). “Night” is defined in accordance with national law and practice.
