Numerical simulations, considering the acceleration stage as a process following an exponential curve, were carried out and the relation between the maximum vibration amplitude and the time constant of the exponential curve was studied. The average value of the maximum vibration amplitudes under several different rotation speeds was calculated, and the variations of the average value along with the increase of clothes mass and control current of MR dampers were analyzed. The results show that the control current of MR dampers has little influence on the optimal time constant, and for clothes with mass of 1 to 9 kilograms, the time constant can be set at 0.7 to achieve a good comprehensive control result. Besides, a simple control strategy of MR dampers considering both the vibration suppression at transient stage and the vibration isolation at steady stage was proposed. The short time Fourier transform was employed for tracing the vibration frequency of tub, once the frequency grows bigger than a preset value, the control current of MR dampers turns from the maximum value to the minimum one for vibration isolation.
