Educated at?Woolverstone Hall School; the?University of Sussex, receiving his degree in English literature in 1970; and the?University of East Anglia, where he undertook a master's degree in creative writing. Awards and honors First Love, Last Rites(1975): Somerset Maugham Award(毛姆奖) The Child in Time(1987): Whitbread Novel Award(布莱德奖) Amsterdam(1998): Man Booker Prize(布克奖) Atonement(2001): adapted into an?Oscar-winning?film starring?Keira Knightley?and?James McAvoy. Awarded the?Jerusalem Prize(耶路撒冷文学奖) for the Freedom of the Individual in Society in 2011 Writing features Among all of McEwan’s literary works, short stories covered a large part, most of which were equipped with various intricate and quaint plot, with full addition of gothic elements. Many of his works were known as “black comedy”, and he himself also won the nickname of “Ian Macabre”. The topic of his works were mainly concerned with ethical taboos and the dark side of humanity, such as sexual violence, incest, murder, etc. McEwan was very good at depicting the internal sense of unease and concerns within modern people’s heart, vividly reflecting what inside human nature. There was a wide range of topics concerning his literary creation, especially the control of sexual desire on human nature, and those concerning violence and death.
