A contemporary of Florence Nightingale. 1868-Founded a Women’s Medical College at the New York Infirmary to train Women doctors. 1874-75-Helped open the Women’s Medical College in London, England. Major Accomplishments, cont’d 1875-taught at the London School of Medicine for Women. 1859-First female physician and doctor in the UK Medical Register. Inspired Elizabeth Garrett Anderson to become Britain’s first woman doctor. Active in the anti-slavery movement 1895-Published Pioneer Work in Opening the Medical Profession to Women. Elizabeth Blackwell died on May 31, 1910, six days after suffering a stroke, at the age of 89. Women physicians everywhere owe a debt of gratitude to Elizabeth Blackwell for opening up the field and practice of medicine to women. “I think we are really happy in this medical movement.
