The definition of Autonomous Learning Under the?Network-based Environment is that students make use of the provision of learning support services provided by Network-based Environment. And its essence is realizing a transformation from the center of teacher into the center of students during the process of teaching and learning. Autonomous Learning Under the?Network-based Environment is also beneficial to encourage students’ subjective initiative and creative ability. 2. The Current Status of Research Abroad Autonomous learning is an important issue of the study of the education psychology, and many scholars and educationalists have made a research on it. In the 1960s, with the development of the cognitive and humanistic psychology, western educationalists advocated to cultivate the learner’s responsibility as the ultimate goal of the education. Since the middle of 1970s, the discussion of the autonomous learning has begun in the foreign language teaching field. Learner autonomy, the term was first coined in 1981 by Henri Holec, the “father” of learner autonomy. Many definitions have since created for the term. He was the first one to bring this notion into the foreign language teaching and learning field. And autonomic learning has gained great popularity between researchers home and abroad since Holec first gave this definition. He (1981) explained the meaning of the autonomous learning in his Autonomy and Foreign Language Learning. For others, autonomy means the ability to learn and it describes the characteristic of the learner rather than that of the learning process. Holec (1981, p.47) expresses the
