Tom and his brother Peter were very good friends and they planned to play together in their garden during the summer holidays, butt unfortunately, Peter caught the measles and Tom was forced to be sent to his uncle’s house to spend the holiday because the measles is a very contagious disease. Introduction(2) On the day to leave, Tom looked at the garden, reluctant to leave. How would he miss Peter and the garden! Tom showed his unwillingness obviously by crying to his mother that he would rather have had measles with Peter than be sent to away and by sitting in hostile silence in the car. At the thought of being cooped up in his uncle’s small flat with no gardens and no friends, he felt very upset. Introduction(3): about the author Philippa Pearce has been a scriptwriter-producer for the BBC, a childrens book editor and reviewer, a lecturer, a storyteller and freelance writer for radio and newspapers as well as writing some of the best-loved books of the 20th century. She won a Carnegie Medal for Toms Midnight Garden and a Whitbread Prize for The Battle Of Bubble And Squeak. Introduction(4): about the author Philippa Pearce is considered one of the outstanding children’s writers of the twentieth century.
