TheChildren’sDepressionInventoryisawidelyresearchedandclinicallyusefulmeasurementtool.However,researchontheCDIis limitedbyanoverrelianceonoutpatientsamples.ThisisunfortunatebecausetheCDIholdspotentialforuseininpatientsettings. Method.ThisretrospectivestaticgroupcomparisonexaminedtheCDItotalscorescontainedin69pediatricpsychiatricinpatients treatedatalargeacademicmedicalcenter.Patientsweresortedintostaticgroups(depressivespectrum,nondepressivespectrum) based on their diagnoses at admission. Results. Independent t-tests revealed that the CDI total scores discriminated between patientspresentingwithdepressivespectrumdisordersandyoungstersadmittedwithnon-depressivedisorders.Conclusion .The results suggested that the CDI is a rather dimensional measure, which re?ects broad negative a?ectivity as well as particular depressivesymptomsinpediatricpsychiatricinpatients. 1.Introduction andpessimism.Pessimismin?uencestheresponsetoboth psychosocial and pharmacological interventions.
