Duringmammalpregnancy,asensitivebalancebetweenhormones,cytokines,humoralfactors,andlocalcellularinteractions mustbeestablished.Cytotoxiccellsin?ltratingthedeciduaareheavilyequippedwithcytolyticmolecules,inparticularperforin and granulysin. Granulysin is especially abundant in NK cells which are able to spontaneously secrete high quantities of granulysin.Besidesbeingapotentbactericidalandtumoricidalmolecule,granulysinisalsofoundtobeachemoattractantand aproin?ammatorymolecule.Thepreciserole(s)ofgranulysinatthematernal-fetalinterfacehasnotbeenelucidatedyet.Itis possiblethatitbehavesasadouble-edgedswordsimultaneouslyactingasanimmunomodulatoryandahostdefensemolecule protectingboththemotherandthefetusfromawide spectrumofpathogens,andontheotherhand,incaseofanNKcell activation,actingasane?ectormoleculecausingtheapoptosisofsemiallografttrophoblastcellsandconsequentlyleadingto variouspregnancydisordersorpregnancyloss. 1.Introduction 2.GranuleExocytosisPathway Pregnancyisauniqueeventwhereb
