Methodology/PrincipalFindings:Annualmeasurementsofheightandweightwereavailableinallchildrenbornfrom1930 to1969whoattendedprimaryschoolintheCopenhagenmunicipality;156,835childrenfulfilledthecriteriafordetermining ageatOGSandPHV.TheeffectofprepubertalBMIatagesevenonthesemarkersofpubertaldevelopmentwithinand betweenbirthcohortswasanalyzed.BMIatsevenyearswassignificantlyinverselyassociatedwithageatOGSandPHV. DividingthechildrenintofivelevelsofprepubertalBMI,wefoundasimilarseculartrendtowardearliermaturationinallBMI groups. Conclusion/Significance:Theheavierbothboysandgirlswereatageseven,theearliertheyenteredpuberty.Irrespective oflevelofBMIatageseven,therewasadownwardtrendintheageatattainingpubertyinbothboysandgirls,which suggeststhattheobesityepidemicisnotsolelyresponsibleforthetrend.
