Recently, advances in the highthroughputsynthesisofbiomaterialshassignificantlyincreasedthenumberofpotentialbiomaterials,howevercurrent biocompatibilityanalysismethodsareslowandrequirehistologicalanalysis. Methodology/Principal Findings: Here we develop rapid, non-invasive methods for in vivo quantification of the inflammatoryresponsetoimplantedbiomaterials.Materialswereplacedsubcutaneouslyinanarrayformatandmonitored forhostresponsesasperISO10993-6:2001.Hostcellactivityinresponsetothesematerialswasimagedkinetically,invivo usingfluorescentwholeanimalimaging.Datacapturedusingwholeanimalimagingdisplayedsimilartemporaltrendsin cellularrecruitmentofphagocytestothebiomaterialscomparedtohistologicalanalysis. Conclusions/Significance:Histologicalanalysissimilarityvalidatesthistechniqueasanovel,rapidapproachforscreening biocompatibilityofimplantedmaterials.Throughthistechniquethereexiststhepossibilitytorapidlyscreenlargelibraries ofpolymersinvivo.
