Children’s Play areas Part 1: Aims and Implementation of the service/ policy/procedure or practice What is being assessed? (Name of the service, policy, procedure or practice – is it new or a review of an existing) Leisure Services – Children’s Playgrounds. This is an existing service. The Service manages and maintains the 35 play areas in Thanet providing equipped play, ball play, wheeled play and teenage shelters. Who is responsible for carrying out the assessment? Why were they selected (e.g. their knowledge/experience) Mr Chris Tull – Senior Leisure Officer. Mr. Tull has 20 years experience with children’s play facilities. During this time, he has been involved with both built facility aspect and experience in organising children’s activities, such as children’s play schemes. More recently, Mr. Tull has been involved with development of facilities such as teen shelters and multi-use games areas aimed at teenagers and young people. Since 1985, Mr. Tull has been actively involved in providing frontline delivery of range of sports opportunities, facilities and access for people with disabilities. He has been instrumental in securing external grant funding from a wide range of sources to improve and increase play areas and wide range of leisure amenities, both indoor and outdoor, for children and young people in Thanet. The Service currently provides, manages and maintains 35 children’s play areas in Thanet. It works closely with parks and open spaces to provide play areas for children and young people and is responsible for the maintenance of the equipment and facilities and to ensure a free and safe environment for children to play.
