Reading for Skills and Vision A New Textbook for Extensive Reading Unit Nine Law Brief Introduction to the Unit: The three articles in this unit are all concerned with different aspects of social life governed by a variety of laws. Reading them carefully, you can have a better insight into what people should do to run the society under more efficient and wholesome legal supervision . Questions to Consider ? Survey the whole unit quickly to find out answers to the following questions: What aspect of legislation does each article uncover? What specific problems exist in these legal areas? These special interest groups are often called lobbying groups or pressure groups. Such groups have existed through out the nation’s history, and their influence and number are still on the increase. The National Rifle Association is an example of a powerful and effective lobby. The NRA has been able to block the passage of most gun control legislation.
