Xu Ming and Wang Lei planned to visit their foreign teacher Mr Bill Holland that evening. They wanted to talk about the coming exams. That afternoon after class they called the Foreign Teachers’ Office to make an appointment with him. Mr Holland was very busy that evening, but he made arrangements for them to come to his apartment the next evening at seven. The next evening the boys arrived at Mr. Holland’s door at seven sharp. Mr Holland was very pleased to see them. “You are very punctual,” he said. They talked about many things and enjoyed the coffee Mr. Holland offered them. They came away with a lot of good advice form the teacher. It was a very rewarding evening. Questions: (Note: Questions will not appear on your exam paper.) Why did the two boys want to meet Mr. Holland ? Because they wanted to talk about the coming exams. How did they make an appointment with Mr. Holland? They called the Foreign Teachers’ Office to make an appointment. What should you observe when you have an appointment with someone. Be punctual. What did they do at Mr. Holland’ s apartment? The key to balancing individuality and modularity is helping students to strive in society. Most American colleges emphasize communication, leadership skills, adaptability, honesty and personal uniqueness which are the key factors for success in society.
