1. To read about athletes, doping and gene therapy.
2. To get the students to sum up the general idea of the text.
3. To practice using mixed conditionals.

Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Revision
Check homework exercises.
Step 2 Learn the new words of Lesson 2
1. Ask some students to read the new words first and correct their pronunciation.
Key words: atombillion, organ, cell, Nerve cell.
2. Play the tape and have them read after the tape.
3. Give them a few minutes to read the new words freely tell them if they cant read the words, ask the teacher.
Step 3 Listening
1. Before you start
a) Students work in pairs, matching the key words with the definitions.
atom---the smallest piece of something that can exist alone
billion---one thousand million
organ---a part of the body that has a particular purpose
cell---a unit of living matter
Nerve cell---a tiny part of the body that helps carry messages to and from the brain
b) Check their answers.
c) Ask them to read the key words and the definitions.
2. Listen to learn
a) Ask four students to read the listening strategies. Make sure they get the meaning.
(1) Before you listen, read the text and predict what kind of information you need, remember you need more than one word.
(2) Underline some important words in the text before each gap.
(3) While you are listening, listen for these important words---the information you need should follow them.
(4) You can complete the gaps using abbreviations at first---this saves time. Then write them in full.
b) Give them a few minutes to read through the summary.
c) Play the tape once for students to listen and write abbreviations for the missing words.
c) Play again for students to complete the gaps.
d) Check their answers.
3. Exercise 1
a) Let the students read through the question
