Ship Statutory and SOLAS 3 ILO and Basic Convention Requirements ILO What is ILO? h The International Labour Organisation, which was founded in 1919 and became the first specialised agency of the UN in 1946. h A UN specialised agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognised human and labour rights. 2 ILO What does ILO do? h ILO formulates international labour standards in the form of conventions and recommendations setting minimum standards of basic labour rights. h With respect to ship newbuilding, standards for: 1.
