My Understanding of “Ode to a Nightingale” Abstract:Ode to a Nightingale written by John Keats is a beautiful and profound poem,which expresses poet’s dream of escaping from the mortality’s suffering and reaching Nirvana represented by the nightingale’s voice.When the dream will come true through the imagination of the poetry, he decides to come back to the real world between the good imagination and harsh reality,in order to perform the courage of facing the real life. In the poem ,it describes two different worlds and presents the contradiction between ideal and reality,eternity and death,which reveal the beautiful dream and harsh reality.The thesis is to deepen the understanding of this poem by analyzing artistic techniques such as image、rhetoric and symbolize. There is no doubt that Ode to a Nightingale is the most beautiful poem among all his odes.Then I will express my understanding of Ode to a Nightingale. Ode to a Nightingale is a poem written in May 1819,published in 1820. Keats friend Charles Brown relates that a nightingale had nested near his house in Hampstead(now known as Keats House) , and that one morning Keats sat under a plum tree in the garden.
