The task of this course is let the students understand and master the definition, composition, essential theory and management technology of Modern Marine Engineering, meeting the training requirements for marine engineer in STCW. Course description This course gives a brief description of the basic definition, composition, requirement and performance of Marine Engineering, focuses on ship propulsion system, basic diesel-propeller matching, ship’ piping system management, and analysis and maintenances of marine engineering, as well as the conventions with respect to marine engineering. The main content consists of 12 parts, i.e. Summary of Marine Engineering, Ship Propulsion System, Basic Diesel-Propeller Matching, Ship’ Piping System Management, Management of Reliability and Economy, Management of Oils, Spare Parts Stores in E/R, International Conventions, Port State Control Inspections, Ship Surveys, Shipyard Repairs and Overhaul Management, Safety Operations and Emergency, and Engine Room Personnel Management.
