They are installed to gather data from one or multiple systems that are critical for your business. Data that is collected by the agents is sent to a central repository called the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server. Agents are type-specific(l.e. Unix, Linux, Windows, SAP, DB2). The granularity is frequently per instance(l.e. Database, MQ Queue Manager, Message Broker). The UniversalAgent(UA) is a generic agent and extends the performance and availability management capabilities of ITM to applications and operating systems not otherwise covered by other ITM agents.
