They are perfecting of ourselves, and the happiness of others. ---康德(Kant) Lesson Eleven Schooling Career Success Part-time Jobs Making preparations for oral presentation (p129-131) Beginning Block: Three elements make up a good beginning block for your talk—an expression of courtesy to your listeners, introduction of the central idea of your talk, and first mention of the main appeal of the idea to your audience. Middle Block: Having begun your talk well, turn next in the middle block to make the strongest case you can for your central idea in the time open to you. End Block: Usually you give an appropriate summary or enumerate the main points. In almost all cases, you won’t want to introduce any new facts or appeals in your ending. Using the same kind of sentence repeatedly (in what is called parallel construction) might give the ending of a talk of yours special force. Group discussion Divide the class into several groups, 4 or 6 students in each group. First, each group is provided with a question for discussion. Then each group chooses one representative to make a presentation (reference seen P93,94) 1) What are the factors you’d like to take into consideration when applying for a job? a) Interesting and challenging job. b) Decent pay. c) Comfortable working environment and friendly relationship with colleagues. d) Security and stability. 2) What are the factors leading to success in one’s career? Being interested in your job. Being knowledgeable in your field. Being ready to grasp the opportunity. Being perseverant. Being able to face difficulties and to deal with them bravely. 3)What’s your point of view of job-hopping? Negative You can’t become an expert in a certain field if you change your jobs frequently. You would have to start from the very beginning from time to time. Changing jobs constantly can lead to the
