NSEFC 5 Unit 2 the United Kingdom Good morning, ladies and gentleman. It’s a great honor to be here to share my ideas with you. My topic today is the United Kingdom. It is the first class about reading passage “Puzzles in Geography” of Unit 2, Module 5. My talk consists of 3 parts. Part A, my understanding of the text. Part B, teaching and learning strategies. Part C, teaching procedure. A. About the Text Analysis of the Contents This is the second unit of book 5 which titled United Kingdom. As we know, the UK is an English-speaking country, which is the mother-land of English that students are studying now. Because of this very reason of such relationship, to study the geography, history and culture of the UK appears very important. It could arouse students’ interest to learn more and help to widen their vision towards the world. In this unit, the reading passage is the most important part. It includes the reading skills and moral aims that students have to obtain besides its knowledge requirement. Therefore, students are expected to achieve the following goals after learning this unit. Teaching Goals Knowledge Aims: a. Have a basic understanding of geography, history and culture etc of the UK. b. Learn the useful words and expression in the passage. Ability Aims: Manage different reading skills on comprehending a passage for different reading purposes. Able to understand the general idea of the video which introduces the UK play by teacher. Moral Aims: a. Have an enduring attention on learning different reading skills, and try to conquer the difficulties appear on reading task. b. To widen students’ vision on the UK. Important Points & Difficult Points Important Points: a. Have a basic comprehension of the UK from geography, history and culture etc. b. To manage the reading skills on various reading purposes.
