Implications of CLT Significant implications of communicative language ability for teaching and learning Click Here Criteria for Communicative Activities The focus should be on the meaning not the form. e.g. The content should be determined by the learner who is speaking or writing. The learner has to formulate and produce ideas, information, opinions, etc. e.g. Criteria for Communicative Activities There must be a negotiation of meaning between the speakers, i.e. students must be involved in interpreting a meaning from what they hear and constructing what to say as a response. In other words, they should not be reliant on the teacher or materials to provide the language. e.g. Criteria for Communicative Activities What a learner hears should not be predictable, i.e. there should be an information or opinion gap. e.g. Criteria for Communicative Activities The normal process of listening, reading, speaking, and writing will be in play, for example improvising and paraphrasing in speech. e.g. Criteria for Communicative Activities Teacher intervention to correct should be minimal as this distracts from the message.
