Unit 1 Friendship 友 谊 Anne Frank’s story 因著名的《安妮日记》而被世人所熟知的安妮·弗兰克是一名德国犹太少女。坚强的她以自己的勇敢精神去克服恶劣的环境,并在她的日记中记录下了二战中德国纳粹对犹太人的迫害。 Anne Frank was one of over one million Jewish children who died in the Holocaust.She was born on June 12,1929,in Frankfurt,Germany. For the first 5 years of her life,Anne lived with her parents and older sister,Margot,in Frankfurt.After the Nazis rose to power in 1933,Anne’s father,Otto Frank,left for Amsterdam in the Netherlands,where he had business connections.The rest of the Frank family followed Otto,with Anne being the last of the family to arrive in February 1934. The Germans occupied Amsterdam in May 1940.In July 1942,German government and their Dutch collaborators (勾结者) began to concentrate (集中) Jews from throughout the Netherlands at Westerbork.During the first half of July,the Franks had to hide in an apartment.For over two years,they lived in a secret attic apartment behind the office of the family-owned business.On August 4,1944,the Gestapo discovered the hiding place. That same day,the Franks were caught.They were sent to Westerbork on August 8.One month later,in September 1944,they were moved on a train from Westerbork to Auschwitz,a concentration camp in Poland.Chosen for labor,Anne and her sister,Margot were moved to the other concentration camp in late October 1944. Both sisters died of a serious disease in March 1945.Anne’s parents were also chosen for labor.Anne’s mother died in Auschwitz in early January 1945.Only Anne’s father was able to continue to live. While hiding in the attic,Anne kept a diary in which she recorded her fears,hopes and experiences.Found in the secret apartment after the family was caught,the diary was kept for Anne by Miep Gies,one of the people who had helped hide the Franks.It was published after the war in many languages and has become one of the most powerful memoirs (回忆录) of the Holocaust.Its message of courage and hope in the face of trouble has reached millions.
