In this novels Lawrence exposes not only the ecological crisis of nature and society, but also the crisis of men’s spiritual ecology, which is much more severe and worsened the crisis of natural ecology. The thesis interprets Sons and Lovers from three perspectives. It first analyzes the implication of natural ecology in Sons and Lovers, which shows Lawrence’s special feeling towards nature. His worry about Natural Ecology reflects his deep thought of man-and-nature relationship. Then it reveals disharmonious human relationships in the distorted industrial society described in the novel; Lawrence gives great concern for Social Ecology in the novel. Last it explores the crisis of the spiritual Ecology in the novel; through the analysis of the Pauls split personality, the author finally finds the way to the integrity of the self. Through interpreting Sons and Lovers from the perspectives of natural, social and spiritual ecology, the thesis reveals the complexity of three basic relationships—man and nature, man and society, and man and it’s self, and exposes the problem of disruption of ecological balance.
