Second stage: rapid drop in concentration of effluent. Third stage: the concentration of effluent is remaining low. If the sufficient wash liquid is used,the residual solute in the cake can be reduced to any desired point, but the washing should be stopped when the value of the unrecovered solute is less than the cost of recovering it.
