ABSTRACTABSTRACTHighdensityelectronicequipmentshavefeaturesofhighdensecomponents,densepowerdistributesandhighheatdissipationperunitvolume.ItiseffectivetoshortenthewholeRDprocessifthethermalfeaturesoftheproductsanditsdefectsinthermalareaccuratelydescribed.Therefore,thethermalnumericalsimulationmethodandthermaldesignarebecomingoneofthemostimportantresearchtopicsduringtheprocedureofdesigningelectronicequipmentsinrecentyears.ThispaperfocusesonstudyingIBMX36502U.ByusingProEandthermalsimulationanalysissoftwareFlotherm,theauthorbuiltthe3DmodelofIBMX36502Userver,solvedthesteady-statefieldandvelocityfieldandvalidatedsimulationresultsthroughexperiments.Thensomefactorsandrulesofthumbaffectingthethermalfeatureswereanalyzedandresearchedandthermaldesignforheatsinkandthewholeserverwerediscussed.TheaimoftheseresearcheswastryingtosummarizesomemethodsofnumericalsimulationandthermaldesignforhighdensityserverandgivesomeusefulsuggestionsfortheRDofhighdensityserver.Themainstudiesareasfollows:3DmodelofIBMX36502Userverwasbuilt,themodelingmethodforthecomplexcomponentswasdiscussedandthesteady-statefieldandvelocityfielddistributionweresolvedatroomtemperature.Thentheinfluenceofradiancefactortothetemperaturefieldandhole-arraystructuretotheairflowcharacteristicswasresearchedrespectively.Theexperimentsoftemperaturespottest,thermalimagingtemperaturetestandairflowvelocitytestweredesignedandimplemented.Bycomparingtothesimulationresults,theseresultsprovedthatthesimulationmethodwasreliableandthesolutionresultswerecredible.Byusingtheheatbasetoreplacethewholeheatsink,anequivalentmodelingmethodwasproposedtosimplifytheanalyticalmodelinsystem-levelanalysisandsavecalculatingtime.TheheatsinkwasoptimizedbyusingGeneticAlgorithm,anditsABSTRACTresultswerevalidatedbyutilizingSequentialOptimization,basedonwhichtheDesignofExperimentshelpedtoimprovetheefficiencyofheatsink’sheatdissipating.Discussedhowtheairflowinsideserverandkeypointstemperaturewereinfluencedbythefollowingfourconditions:withwindtunnels,withoutwindtu
