第三次翻译 汉译英练习（2010.12.21.） 人类自有文化就有文化交流。人类文化从整体来说，是各国、各民族文化会聚、交流的产物。现代国际间的文化交流，更是以空前的规模、内容、形式和手段，在直接间接地进行着。 In human history, cultural exchange began with the very emergence of culture. Taken as a whole, human culture is the collective product of cultural exchange between all peoples and nations. Today international cultural exchange goes directly and indirectly, its scope, content, form and method unheard of before the present time. 事实上，在现代国家中，绝对不受外来影响的固有文化是不存在的。一位外国的著名历史学家曾经写道：“任何国家的文明，来自外来影响的产物总是多于本国的发明创造。如果有人要把英国文化中所有受外国影响或来源于外国的东西剔除掉，那么，英国的文化就所剩无几了。” In fact, there is not any native civilization on earth that does not bear traces of external influences. A noted American historian once wrote: “The civilization of any coumtry is much more the product of external influences than of native invention. If ome subtracted everything from the English culture that had foreign roots or antecedents, there would be little left.”（引号部分斜体） 事实也近乎如此。中国古代的四大发明曾经给古代世界的文化发展以巨大的推动。汉唐文化对朝鲜、日本等毗邻国家的文化发展，更是给予了深刻而又久远的影响。同样，近代和现代西方的许多重要科学成果，也改变了并继续改变着当代中国人的生活。 History bears proof of the above statement. The Four Great Inventions in ancient China, paper, printing, compasses and gunpowder, greatly advanced the ancient civilization of the world. The culture of the Han (206 B.C.220) and the Tang Dynasties (618--907) exerted deep and far-reaching influences on the development of civilization in Korea, Japan and other neighboring countries. Likewise, the achievements in science in our own times in the West have changed the life of the Chinese people, and are continuing to do it. 对外开放成了我国将要长期坚持不变的基本国策。这就为我们的国际文化交流，开辟了更为自觉、更为广阔的前景。我们向世界各国借鉴一切对我们有益的东西，用以建设自己的物质文明和精神文明。同时，我们又向各国人民介绍他们所感兴趣的事物。通过相互交流，增进了解和友谊，促进科学文化的共同发展。 China’s opening-up policy, which has become a fundamental policy in our country, will remain unchanged.
