ABSTRACT The Fifth Central Conference on Tibet Work about Tibet achieving leapfrog development and gradually narrowing the gap with the Mainland was established. The Lhasa urbanization process is carried out in this context. In this exciting, far-reaching social transformation, I had the honor to join this historical trend, became a witnesses, observer, researcher of the historical stage. The farmers who live around the holy city’s suburbs-the suburbs of Lhasa city followed their livelihoods for thousands of years-farming and grazing, have had very solid habits and living customs. And when the identification from farmers to citizens, the living folks are going to transfer quietly. The writer focuses on Zangre village, where it is in Lhasa, Tibet, to make an objective, comprehensive presentation to traditional living folks and post-urbanized new folks simultaneously. Therefore, the paper tries to make some basic answers: why under the specific condition of space and time the Zangre village becomes merged and becomes separated? In the context of urbanization, how will the frontier and ethnic areas face swift and unstoppable urbanization and how to construct harmonious societies on those areas? Hence, the writer takes a study line of reappearing the two residential styles of the village in deep-description that tries to make a comparison between courtyard style and apartment style, so as to find differences. Then the paper tries to illustrate the internal mechanism of the folk transformation in the tide of urbanization in the village and deep-describes the attitudes that villagers take. The writer considers that with the rapid development of Lhasa urbanization, the village as the nearest village to the downtown is to be a village that changes greatly in that tide. When village becomes a part of urban area, the villagers get used to new identities and new residential styles, in the meantime; they are to make self-choices and reconstitutions to that folks. And
