* * * * These illustrations provide a visual sequence of MultiPlex’s mechanism of action: By preheating blood to approximately 70 degrees Celsius, methhemoglobin results when iron in oxyhemoglobin is reduced from the normal divalent state to a trivalent state; the resulting bluish pigment is methemoglobin. The methemoglobin has an absorption rate 3-5x greater for the 1064nm Nd:YAG resulting in vessel destruction with reduced fluence Again, the delay between pulses is chosen based on the vascular flow of the target – a short delay is required for treating small veins, while a longer delay is used for treating larger vascular conditions (such as PWS) * Different vascular targets require different delays for optimal treatment High flow targets (like our friend at right) require the pulses to be delivered close together to trap the altered blood before it flows away. This is safe for descrete vessels, like most on the face, because they are small and don’t accumulate much heat. You need to be more careful wil larger vessels (but these tend to flow more slowly) Medium flow targets (like burgandy or blue leg veins, allow use of Medium delay, to reduce the risk of dermal heating and damage, while still trapping blood in the treatment area Low flow vessels like those found in PWS and other vascular birthmarks tend to have high vessel densities, and also tend to be thick lesions * The V-Star is capable of treating difficult areas, easily and effectively. * When doing facial telangectasias and rosacea one tracing is usually sufficient, to many tracing over the area may be too much heat build up and lead to blistering or edema. * (1) This case shows resection of squamous cell carcinoma in a 42-year-old woman. (2) Closure of defect with a cheek flap. (3) The wound is now closed and multiple treatments she has very little signs of a scar. . . . * The deeper darker veins respond to the Nd:YAG faster, you as we discussed earlier Some of the superficial lesion
