Mark Twain’s Life Experience A. Boyhood Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens. He was born in the small village of Florida, Missouri on Nov.30,1835. As Father’s business failed, the family had to move to Hannibal when Samuel was 4,where he spent his boyhood . B. Early life Sam had relatively little schooling. After his father’s death, he had to help the family by taking up odd jobs. C. Experiences on the Mississippi River D. His most productive years He married in 1870,and moved to Hartford, Conn., where he lived his most productive years (till 1891). The move was a turning point in his life. Tom Sawyer was written in 1876; Huckleberry Finn in 1884. E. Financial difficulties and personal misfortunes F. His last year He dictated his autobiography . He died in 1910 because of heart attack. Mark Twain’s literary career In 1865, he published hid frontier tale “The celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,” which brought him recognition from a wider public. His full literary career began to blossom in 1869 with a travel book Innocents Abroad, an account of American tourists in Europe. In Roughing it, Mark Twain describes a journey that works its way farther and farther west through Navada to San Francisco and then to Hawaii. Life on Mississippi tells a story of his boyhood ambition to become a riverboat pilot, this time up and down the Mississippi. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The adventures of Huckleberry Finn proved themselves to the milestone in American literature, and thus firmly established twain’s position. The childhood of tom Sawyer and Huck Finn in the Mississippi valley and it has moved millions of different ages and conditions all over the world.
