Abstract The process of translation is the process of cognizing constantly the source language’s context. From this point of view, the understanding of the original context is the premise of translation. In addition, in the process of understanding contexts, translators should firstly analyze the linguistic level of the original text, and then reconstruct the vocabulary, syntax, grammar and discourse according to contexts in the original text. Only in this way can it meet the target readers’ cognitive habits. In a sense, the reconstruction of contexts is the inevitable result of the translation. Therefore, the process of translation is the process of reconstructing contexts constantly. Generally speaking, context can be classified into linguistic context and non-linguistic context. For children, their understanding of literary works greatly depends on the description of non-linguistic context. Hence, the reconstruction of the non-linguistic context is especially important in the translation of children’s literature. So far,researches at home and abroad about the relationship between non-linguistic context and translation mainly focused on two aspects: emphasizing the function and problems of non-linguistic context in the literary translation from the macro level, and analyzing translation methods and the effect of non-linguistic context on some specific fields of literary works from the micro level. However, it is a pity that no adequate attention has been given to non-linguistic context and the translation of children’s literature. So the research in this field has a great space to be broadened. Cognitive linguistics provides the possibility of reconstructing the non-linguistic context, because cognitive linguistics is used to conjecture the characteristics of conceptual contents in human beings’ mind according to the analysis of language structure.
