Abstract
This thesis mainly focuses on the interpretation of the Song imperial concubine titles under the guidance of the ―Hermeneutic Motion‖ proposed by George Steiner.
The Song imperial concubine titles belong to the category of Chinese culture-loaded words. More specifically, they are a group of titles containing traditional Chinese cultural words. These names, which directly reflect the general structure of the imperial harem in the Song Dynasty, are specific to Chinese culture, and in some way, they also reflect the social context as well as the social value in that specific period of time. Usually, it is not so easy for people to find the equivalents of culture-loaded words in another culture or to translate them into another language. However, the hermeneutics motion proposed by George Steiner may provide us with a new insight in the translation of Chinese culture
