Abstract Every coin has two sides, so as the dialectal TV programs is. It is undeniable that the rise of dialectal TV programs is somewhat a losing of media’s social responsibility to promote Mandarin Chinese, and to a certain extent, it increases “the cost of social language communication and information dissemination”. However, as an emerging form of popular programs by the audience, dialectal programs has the space of reasonable existence and realistic basis if we can lead them to a healthy development. The article defines Wuhan dialectal TV programs as dialect cartoon, dialect arts, dialect teleplay and dialect TV news, analyzes the actuality of using dialect in regional media and the transmission characteristics of them, starts with the social background, competitive strategy in regional media, dialectal TV programs’ characteristics of civilians and cultural values, analyzes the reasons for the rise of dialectal programs, and inspects the space of reasonable existence for Wuhan dialectal programs, and focus on some problems of using dialect when it develops, like locating it as vulgarization, appearing the contradictions of homogenization, being constrained by the policy and that sort of things. Based on this, with the practice of Wuhan Broadcasting System, the author try to suggest some advice about how to use dialect in regional media.
