Abstract The barcode technology has been developing rapidly since its invention, and has been applied to various fields. With the development of technology, due to the limited information capacity and the dependence on the database, the one-dimension barcode can no longer meet the requiements in many situations. Therefore, various two-dimension barcodes came into being, among which the PDF417 barcode is the one with the widest application. This paper mainly deal with the processing algorithms of the PDF417 barcode image rotation, thus laying a foundation for the recognition of the subsequent PDF barcode. Taking into consideration the characteristics of PDF417 barcode image, the processing includes edge-extraction, binarynization, thinning, inclination measurement and image rotation. And at last an excellent and recoginzable PDF417 barcode image is obtained. As for ordinary digital images, there are various processing algorithms of edge- extraction, binarynization, thinning, inclination measurement and image rotation and the development has been mature, but fast and effective algorithms aiming at the PDF417 are rare. Thus, a study on this problem is necessary. The paper first introduced the study topic and the background knowledge of PDF barcode. Then, it mentioned the classic hough transformation algorithm and the more popular improved hough transformation algorithm. On this basis, the author put forward his own algorithm theory about designing of the PDF417 barcode digital images, and a whole set of algorithms of PDF417 barcode digital images rotation processing. Meanwhile, the author compiled programs with Matlab, compares various algorithms in simulation experiments and finally proved the practicability and effectiveness of this algorithm. From the theoretical analasis and the result of the simulation experiments, we can find that the algorithms introduced in the paper are effective and of good detection performance and can successfully deals with the problem of
