I benefit a lot from his patient assistance, critical thinking, scholarly expertise and kind encouragement. Being one of his students in the real sense gives me a precious opportunity to be exposed to his unforgettable tutelage of various kinds, academic or non-academic. My special thanks should go to my dear teachers in the School of Foreign Studies for their scholarly advice, meticulous style and generous help during my study in this school. I would also like to thank my family, whose love, support and encouragement are essential to my completion of the study in the past three years. Abstract As the first anthology of China?s earliest poems and songs, The Book of Songs is the most ancient textbook, which plays an important role in establishing and maintaining the traditional culture of our country. The splendid culture and Confucian tenets comprised in it exert great influence on later generations both at home and abroad. The translation of The Book of Songs has lasted more than one hundred years, however the study about its translation is still rather rare. Influenced by the traditional study of this anthology from the angle of literary aspect in 20th century, the study about translation of The Book of Songs in China mainly focuses on its literary aspect, especially rhetorical devices and forms without the overall consideration. Researchers abroad only have some fragmentary studies on the versions of James Legge, Arthur Waley and Ezra Pound. Their study is partial and i
